Fantasy Football Information: Will Brandon Marshall be Traded?
Earlier this month Broncos star wide receiver Brandon Marshall asked for a new contract. Upon meeting with Broncos owner Pat Bolwen late last week, Brandon left the facility with packed boxes in hand.
Marshall was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 4th round of the ’06 NFL draft.Players selected in this area of the draft receive very modest contracts by NFL standards. While Brandon did not receive a big contract, he has produced in a big way in 2007 and 2008. In that time Marshall averaged 103 catches for 1295 yards and 6 plus touchdowns a year. He also maid the Pro Bowl in that time as well.
Because of this high performance and low pay it is understandable that Marshall would want a new contract. As it stands right now he is in line to make just over two million dollars this season. A wide out would make more like six million dollars, in the open market with his resume.
Interest is being shown in Marshall
So far the Ravens are the top team rumored to be interested in Brandon’s services. Some thought this was mirly are rumor, as the Ravens already have two good receivers on the team. But since that time, the Baltimore Sun has discussed why Brandon would make sense.
Right now I personally believe this would be a good move for years to come for the Ravens. Derrick Mason is getting older and Mark Clayton still has not proven he can be a No.1 receiver. Also factor in tight end Todd Heaps back issues and you can see why, Marshall would work.
“I played with Brandon for three years and I think he’s one of the best receivers in the NFL.” Jay Cutler
While the Brandon would be a good fit for the Ravens, one has to believe he would be a great fit for the Bears. No competitive team in the NFL needs a No.1 receiver more then Chicago.
“That’s up to the guys upstairs. If we make a run at him, we make a run at him.” Jay Cutler when asked if the Bears should trade for Brandon
No to also add that the Bears star quarterback, has better chemistry with Marshall then any QB in football.
The bottom line for Chicago fans is this, Minnesota is going to get Brett Favre this off-season. While it was a great move to trade for Jay Cutler, if the Bears want to win a division title, they need a No.1 receiver.
Will Brandon be traded from the team?
So far the reports out of Denver are that the Broncos have no intentions of trading Marshall. They claim that they do not intend on dealing with this situation the same way the dealt with Jay Cutler (traded in March to the Bears).
I believe the Broncos will try to keep Marshall, as you don’t get your hands on a talent like this very often. How ever that very same thinking applied to the Cutler situation and eventually Denver traded him.
Fantasy Football Information for Brandon Marshall
At this point in time Marshall is still a top 20 fantasy receiver. To me Brandon would see an upgrade into the top 10 if he is in fact traded to the Bears. But if he should go to a team like the Ravens, then you might want to move him down inside the top 25 receivers.
Right now Brandon is a roll of the dice pick in fantasy leagues, as long as he is on the Broncos. Denver is a very volatile place right now, with so much drama going on. If that team gets off to a slow start, Denver fans will go crazy.
