Fantasy Info: Dolphins’ Receiver Davone Bess is Ready to Breakout

Baltimore Ravens v Miami Dolphins

Davone Bess had a great college carrier playing for the Hawaii Warriors. In three years he never had a season under 89 catches, 1,150 yards and 12 touchdowns.

In spite of all his success in college, Bess some how went un-drafted in the 2008 draft. This was mainly because the NFL has strong beliefs that college players don’t project well when they play in fun and gun offenses.

I personally have a problem with this thinking, if it means players like Bess drop all the way out of the draft, because of the system they are in.

Davone posted 293 receptions for 3,610 yards and 41 touchdowns in three years. I don’t care what system a receiver plays in, when a guy supports those numbers, he is sure as heck draft worthy!

Dolphins Sign Davone Bess

After the draft Davone signed as with the Miami Dolphins. This was another great move on Bill Parcels part as he got a steal of a signing in this kid.

No.15 went on to have the second best rookie season in Dolphins history for an un-drafted receiver. Posting 54 receptions for 554 yards and one touchdown. He even capped it all off with a nice 45 yard catch in the playoffs against the Ravens.

After Greg Camarillo went down with an acl tear, Bess got to start the final six games of the regular season. In those games Bess only had one game under five catches (3 for 50 yards against the Raiders).

”he is no doubt ready to take it to another level” – Dolphins GM Jeff Irlands comments on Deavone Bess

That stat shows me that if Bess does in fact win a starting job this year, he will be a very active player in the Dolphins offense.

Fantasy Football Information for Davone Bess

NFL AFC Wild Card Playoff Baltimore Ravens vs Miami Dolphins

As it stands right now Bess has an excellent chance to be a starter opposite Ted Ginn Jr. With Greg Camarillo coming back from acl surgery late in the season, Davone should have a excellent chance for 85 receptions this season.

So where should one draft Bess in their fantasy draft?
At this point in time Davone is nothing more then a late round roll of the dice at your fantasy draft this summer.

Bess needs to show that he can find the end zone more then one time a year. He also needs to improve on his 10.4 yards per catch. I personally believe No.15 will take another step to the fantasy relevant receivers come this season.

Look for Bess to total around five touchdowns and a 12.5 yards per catch, as the Dolphins will expand his role (more passes down the field) in their playbook.
