Fantasy Info: Will Jets Running Back Thomas Jones have a Bad Fantasy Season?
In 2008 Thomas Jones had a career year in New York for the Jets. He posted almost 1,500 total yards of offense and 15 touchdowns.
Last year Jones benefited from 4 major components that gave him success:
1. Great Offensive Line
2. Defenses could not load up in the box to stop the run because of Brett Favre
3. Very Solid Defense
4. Thomas was the biggest runner on the team, for goal line carries.
As it stands at the end of May, No.20 is looking for a new contract, as well as Leon Washington. But so far both runners have yet to sign new deals. Sure Thomas Jones agent Drew Rosenhaus (Just fired by Anquan Bolden) tells us that a new contract is in the works. But their is a reason that on Wednesday May 27th Thomas came back to the Jets OTA’s.
Look for Thomas to Not Receive a new Deal
This is because it looks as if a new contract will not come. Reason being that the Jets have a new rookie they love in Shonn Greene.
This big stud is primed to at least no doubt steal a good amount of those 15 touchdowns scored by Thomas a year ago. Shonn is a big physical runner, while he may not posses the shake and bake, that top fantasy runners have, he is still good at delivering punishment.
Thomas Jones Fantasy Football Ranking in 2009
Look for Thomas to have another 1,000 yard rushing season in 2009. But his touchdown totals will come crashing down this year. Jones still has a very solid offensive line and a good defense, but lack of TD’s and a rookie quarterback will probably make No.20 a gamble to take in this years fantasy draft. Look for Thomas as a late No.2 running back in deep fantasy leagues and a No. 3 running back in more standard formates.
