The Cincinnati Bengals 2009 Regular Season Schedule

Cincinnati Bengals v New Orleans Saints

Last season was a total wash as Carson Palmer was never really healthy and missed most of the season with an arm injury. This year if the Bengals hope to play good consistent football they will need Palmer healthy and playing at his best for the entire season.

Below are three sections of interest that are worth paying attention to for fantasy owners coming into the season for this team. First we have listed our fantasy players which we believe are worth paying attention to this season.

Next is strength of schedule against the run, pass and points against. Lastly we have a few games selected that will be key in telling how this team will preform for the 2009 season.

Fantasy Players

QB. Carson Palmer
RB. Cedric Benson
WR. Chad Ochocinco
WR. Laveranues Coles
WR. Chris Henry

Strength of Schedule

vs Run 14th Hardest Schedule

vs Pass 15th Hardest Schedule

vs Points Given Up 15th Easiest Schedule

Cincinnati will always have a middle of the road to hard schedule because they have the Steelers and the Ravens in their division. This season I am intrigued by what I see in the play of receiver Chris Henry as he’s looked good in preseason. This offseason during OTA’s the word out of the Bengals camp was that Henry was looking very good.

At that time I didn’t think much of it because he has been such a problem off the field but in watching his performance on the field this month he looks ready to produce again. Look for Chris to stay in his traditional role as the No.3 receiver and if he plays well at some point he might start over Coles in the offense.

If Henry does in fact play strong this season it will help Carson and the passing game go a long way to moving in the right direction.

Games of Interest

Week 1 vs Broncos: Right off the bat this team faces an organization they can take advantage of as the Broncos come to town. Champ Bailey is always a good corner and could give Ochocinco a hard time. After Champ though this secondary is very suspect and one would believe that Henry and Coles could have big games.

If this team can get off to a hot start it should help build confidence in an organization that has been hurting the last couple of seasons.

2009 Football Projection

Even if Henry, Ocho, Benson and Palmer all have good seasons this team is still growing on defense and will get burned often. However if they can have a good 7-9 season, the defense should be ready to help this team compete for a wild card spot in 2010.

Hopefully that is the case because it would be a shame to see Carson Palmer’s prime years go to waste on a horrible team.
