Cincinnati Bengals v New Orleans Saints

I figured the Saints wouldn’t have much of a problem looking good against the Bengals woefully bad defense and they did do a good job. What I was interested in seeing most was quarterback Carson Palmer and if his arm looked better.

Bengals passing game should bounce back

In watching the highlights after the game I like what I see from Carson Palmer, Chad Ochocinco and Chris Henry in this passing offense. All three of these players are very talented but have had their issues be it on or off the field.

First and most importantly Carson does look like he is ready to bounce back and put together Palmer like numbers this season. He didn’t really throw any deep bombs for completions but he had a nice throw to Henry for a 39 yard pick up.

Chad Ochocinco did have a 55 yard catch from Palmer but it was a ten yard pass that Chad made a defender miss on and then ran down the sidelines for almost a 70 yard touchdown play. Speaking of Chad he did look good and that run after the catch was refreshing to see as it reminded me of the old Chad Johnson from back in the day.

While Chad does look more like his old self it was Chris Henry that stole the show in the Bengals offense tonight. He had 7 catches for 100 yards receiving and a touchdown grab on the night. His touchdown and half of his yards came after Palmer left the game and was against the backup defenders of New Orleans.

Never the less I does look like Henry is ready to start playing up to the talent that has kept him in the league after all the problems he’s had off the field.

Jeremy Shockey is alive and Robert Meachem was Rabert Meachem

The big news for the New Orleans Saints is that Jeremy Shockey looked darn good last night in his first full offseason with the team. Last year Jeremy didn’t even have a touchdown catch in this offense and it looks like Drew Brees and Sean Payton are going to get him on the right track this season.

While Shockey ended his night with an impressive three catches for 61 yards and a touchdown, I was a little disappointed in third year receiver Robert Meachem.

True he did have a nice 64 yard touchdowns catch but that was in the 3rd quarter against the Bengals backup players. The Bengals aren’t a good defense with their starters let alone the backups.

While it was nice to see Robert have another big second half in a preseason game, I would like to see him deliver the goods earlier in the game with the first team offense.
