Bills vs Packers: Ryan Grant Touchdown Machine? | Player Rankings
This was the Bills third preseason game as they played in the hall of fame game early in the preseason. For the Packers they enjoyed their second consecutive home game this preseason and played a strong game on both sides of the football.
Trent Edwards Gets Knocked Around
This week Trent Edwards didn’t play very well as he threw an early pick and than was sacked two times and fumbled the football next to his own end zone. For the game he was 7 of 11 passing for only 45 yards and the interception mentioned a minute ago.
So far this preseason the offensive line for Buffalo has done a decent job in pass protection as they are in a rebuilding phase. My main concern for this o-line right now is their inability to open running lanes for Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson.
In today’s game Lynch gained only 6 yards on 6 attempts and Jackson fared a little better with 18 yards on 4 carries. If this team is going to succeed in the long term of the season they are going to have to make defenses respect the running game by at least mid season.
Packers Offense is Primed for a Big Season
Last week the Packers offense was spectacular against the Browns pores defense and this week Green Bay was even better against a respectable group in Buffalo. Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdowns as he found both of his starting receivers in the end zone.
While Rodgers and Donald Driver have been very strong this preseason it has been running back Ryan Grant that has impressed me the most. This offseason was the first time Grant has had the chance to practice with the team for the entire time.
Last year he was in a contract hold out and the year before he was with the Giants camp before being cut and then picked up by the Pack.
Ryan only had 5 touchdowns a season ago but in two preseason games he now has two touchdowns down at the goal line. It looks like Grant is ready to have a very strong season as defenses will have to respect Rodgers this year and the Packers awesome passing game.
This respect will open up the running lanes that Grant enjoyed in his one season working in this offense with Brett Favre.
Look for Grant to have a strong season and make a very reasonable run at double digit touchdowns in 2009.
