Chargers vs Cardinals:Legedu Naanee a Fantasy Factor | Player Rankings
In the second week of the preseason the Arizona Cardinals played at home for the first time since the NFC Division Title game against the Eagles. No doubt the team made life hard on the Chargers offense early on as the crowd was in to this game big time. LaDanian Tomlinson is Not Getting it Done After last years disappointing season from LaDainian Tomlinson fantasy football owners wanted to see LT show that he is back and healthy this preseason. Tomlinson hasn’t played in the preseason since 2005 as the team has opted to keep him healthy rather than let him get his timing down in the month of August.
While I’m happy to see that LT is playing in the preseason he has not done much so far in his first two games to show that he is still the player he once was.
Next week the Chargers face off against the Falcons and if LT can’t show the burst of speed we’ve seen in years past it will be time to move this great running back down in your rankings.
Who Do? Legedu Naanee That’s Who
Keeping in line with some of the fun names in fantasy football like T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Visanthe Shiancoe this receiver has a name for the ages. It’s almost as if you have a name like these guys do your sure to be a fantasy and NFL success in your career and a fan favorite as well.
Legedu Naanee started in this game as Vincent Jackson was out with a sprained finger. In an opportunity to start the third year man from Boise State has had two solid preseason games so far in 2009. Last week against the Seahawks Legedu had 3 catches for 30 yards and a touchdown. This week he had 2 catches for 54 yards receiving a 22 yard rushing play and a touchdown. What I like from Naanee is that he’s very fast and two he’s got a big frame at 6’2 and 220 pounds. In this game he flashed his ability to go from zero to sixty when he ran an end around for 22 yards and did a good job running behind his blockers. In the first drive of the game he flashed his blazing speed when Philip Rivers found him down the field for a 49 yard reception. On his last play of the night he cap it off with a very nice catch from Billy Volek for a 4 yard touchdown. With the speed to make the big play and the size to catch touchdowns around the goal line this young man should have a good career in San Diego. This season he will probably start the year stuck behind Vincent Jackson and Chris Cambers but if one of those men should go down to injury, you should consider picking Legedu off of waiver for your team. Tim Hightower Impresses While Chris “Beanie” Wells is Still Out After Tim Hightower’s solid performance tonight I believe it is clear to say that he will be the Cardinals starting running back when the season starts against the 49ers. Rookie running back Chris “Beanie” Wells should take over in the starting job at some point this year but Hightower has just been to good while Chris as been on the sidelines.
Tonight Tim had 42 yards rushing on only 9 carries as he also had a reception for 5 yards as well. Talk out of Arizona is that Hightower has flashed more speed this offseason after a rookie campaign that saw him only average 2.8 yards per rushing attempt.
Right now I would suggest drafting Tim as a late round pick as he will probably remain the starter through most of the bye weeks this year. In the second half of the season Wells will probably take over unless Tim has a great first half.
