Edgerrin James in T.J. Duckett Out | Seahawks Football
Tonight the Seattle Seahawks signed 31 year old veteran running back Edgerrin James and cut running back T.J. Duckett. James agreed to terms on a one year deal worth 2 million dollars and one would expect him to share the load with starter Julius Jones.
Who Will Score?
The one area that T.J. Duckett was highly effective at was scoring in the red zone as last season he was the Seahawks goal line back. In that role he acquired eight rushing touchdowns in the 2008 season.
Jones and Justin Forsett aren’t consider to be capable to carrie the load inside the five yard line as they are undersized runners and haven’t show they can get the job done in times before. This would leave one to believe that James would be the touchdown maker in the running game for this team in 2009.
Distribution of the Football
Look for Edgerrin to probably take over at some point and be the main ball carrier for the team this year. Jones should still see a decent amount of touches but if James is running effectively than he should get the ball.
Fantasy Football Information on Edgerrin James
Right now I would like to see Edge play this weekend and see how effective he can be in the Seahawks offense. If he flashes a decent burst through the hole and does in fact take over the goal line duty’s than he will have fantasy relevance this season.
At this point in time it’s a wait and see game with this running situation but for most fantasy owners that are in leagues of 10 teams or fewer I would recommend you pass on this entire situation all together. The Seahawks offensive line is beat up right now and there are just too many hands in the pot for anyone to be truly effective and reliable in fantasy.
