Evander “Ziggy” Hood: Steelers Defense Just Gets Gooder and Gooder
The Steelers defense was about as good as it gets last year as they basically carried their team to a super bowl championship. No doubt they had the type of “hold no prisoners” mentality that would make defensive players of the past smile at their aggressive nature.
This season the team is primed for another strong defensive year as they have just about all their returning starters from a year ago.
John Clayton of ESPN did a good job in his recent article when he broke down the key points of the Steelers in his camp analysis of the team.
Sure you had the obvious No.1 player worth noting and that was last years defensive MVP James Harrison as he was a total beast and will be again this year.
Clayton did go on to talk about new starting inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons and how he is ready to take over for the departed starter Larry Foote (Lions). Timmons should do well if for no other reason then he has a tremendous supporting cast to play around him.
Hood is Impressing in Camp
The player I was interested in hearing that was having a strong camp was first round pick defensive lineman Evander “Ziggy” Hood. Sure Hood probably won’t start but he is looking in line to be a rotational player on an already dominant line.
If Evander continues in his solid preseason then it will only help insure that this defense is in line for another strong season in 2009.
Fantasy Football Information on the Steelers Defense
This defense already gets a nice division to face for six games a year but they will also get the AFC West conference to play as well. Outside of the Chargers the other offenses all have allot to prove as they are young or have new quarterbacks.
A defense like this will make life very hard for any solid quarterback and offense, let alone an offense that is still adjusting to building chemistry together.
Look for the Steelers as the No.1 defense to take in fantasy football this season as they should have another fine season in Pittsburgh.
