Falcons: 2009 NFL Regular Season Schedule | Fantasy Football Rankings
The Atlanta Falcons 2009 Regular Season Schedule
Atlanta had a great turn around last season as we all found out that Michael Turner is a stud feature runner and Matt Ryan is a very good young quarterback. For all their success, the team did not win the division title as that crown belonged to the Carolina Panthers in 2008.
This season the Falcons look to win the NFC South and should be helped with new acquisition tight end Tony Gonzalez to help this passing attack flourish.
Below are three sections of interest that are worth paying attention to for fantasy owners coming into the season for this team. First we have listed our fantasy players which we believe are worth paying attention to this season.
Next is strength of schedule against the run, pass and points against. Lastly we have a few games selected that will be key in telling how this team will preform for the 2009 season.
Strength of Schedule
vs Run Hardest Schedule in Football
vs Pass 8th Hardest Schedule
vs Points Given Up 4th Hardest Schedule
While the Falcons do have the hardest schedule on paper to run against, it is not as bad as it’s ranking would suggest. For one thing this team will be helped out by the fact that the Panthers lost their run stuffing stud Maake Kemoeatu for the season, with a tore achilles tendon.
They will also be helped by the fact that they play the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay week 17. That week lots of fantasy leagues don’t even play so you won’t have Turner playing in a stadium that the Falcons usually don’t fair well in.
Games of Interest
Weeks 1 and 2: In the first two weeks the Falcons will play at home against the Dolphins and the Panthers. Atlanta was very solid at home last season and if they can win these first two games it will go a long way to winning the division this season.
I will be interested to see if Matt Ryan can pick apart the Dolphins shaky pass defense in the first week.
In the second week it should be all about Burner Turner and running the football as last season he had 4 touchdowns and over 100 yards rushing against the Panthers at home.
2009 Football Projection
Due to the Panthers new found injuries on defense this team has a very good chance to win the division this season. The upgrade of Tony Gonzalez should provide the spark this team needs in the offense to take their passing production up a notch, as Matt progresses into a pro bowl quarterback.
