Falcons vs Rams: Michael Turner Strikes Again | Player Rankings
The Rams and Falcons faced of in the second week in the preseason and the first teams played as fantasy owners and NFL fans would expect. The Falcons looked very good and the Rams looked like one of the worst teams in football.
Michael Burner Turner Has Another Strong Game
Much has been said about Michael Turner and if he can repeat his performance from a year ago for fantasy football owners. Most of that talk has not been kind to a player that had so much success in his first year as a starter.
So far in preseason Turner has proved his doubters wrong with two strong performances in his first two times out. Last week against the Lions Michael had 6 carries for 63 yards which was highlighted but a very nice 40 yard touchdown run.
This week he came right back and had another strong game with 7 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown. Again like last week his stat line was highlighted by a 43 yard run as he barreled through line and flashed his speed in the open field.
While I find these games to be impressive I will be interested to see if he can have a strong productive game next week against the Chargers. We need to see him flash these same skills against teams that are not named Lions, Rams or Chiefs.
Matt Ryan and Tony Gonzalez Connection
Tonight we got a chance to see Matt Ryan and Tony Gonzalez hook up for a nice touchdown as Ryan drove the team down for their second score in the first quarter. Seeing the highlights of Matt I can’t help but see that he is progressing well into his second year as a NFL quarterback. The touchdown pass he threw to Tony reminded me of Tom Brady when his was young.
I’m not big on comparisons of young players to hall of fame quarterbacks but Ryan sure looks the part of a solid rising star.
Growing Pains for the Rams
This week I wrote an article on the Rams regular season schedule and how tough it is going to be in the first 6 games of the season. While St. Louis is reportedly having a very good training camp I believe this year they will still go through growing pains.
One bright spot I see on this team is receiver Laurent Robinson as he had a nice 50 yard catch last week against the Jets and this week he posted 5 catches for 65 yards. With this production he should be in line to start over Keenan Burton who hasn’t really step up and produced in the first two preseason games.
