Saints vs Texans:Marques Colston Catches Six Passes | Player Rankings
When I looked at the schedule for the second week of preseason this was the one game I had penciled in to watch. The Saints and Texans have high flying offenses and I was interested to see who would step up and have a big game.
Marques Colston Productive
This offseason Marques Colston had micro fracture knee surgery and I was concerned about his production for this season until tonight. It was very nice to see Marques have a solid game with 6 catches for 66 yards.
If Colston shows no ill effects this week and can have another strong showing next week against the Raiders than I will feel a lot better about him being a top ten fantasy receiver this year.
Mike Bell Runs Wild
It was nice to see Pierre Thomas flash his receiving skills once again as he hooked up with Drew Brees on a 9 yard touchdown catch. Beyond that it was the third running back on the depth chart that had the big game in Mike Bell.
Reggie Bush did not travel with the team as he is still resting his knee that has caused him so many problems in his career. If Bush goes down this season with another knee issue than look for Bell to compliment Thomas as the next runner in line for touches in this offense.
Bell’s 100 yard rushing performance tonight was highlighted by a very nice 46 yard touchdown run. If Mike continues to play strong and Bush does go down for some time than you might want to consider snagging this runner up on your depth chart during the season.
Matt Schaub has Another Strong Game
The only knock I have on Matt Schaub over the past year or so is that I don’t see a lot of big explosive touchdowns like we saw in the first few games he played in the 2007 season. If your in a league that gives extra points for the distance on a touchdown than you might want to consider this flaw in the Texans passing game, before you select them on draft day.
Most internet leagues give a straight 4 to 6 points for touchdown passes no matter the distance. In these traditional leagues Matt Schaub is a more valuable quarterback.
Beyond that small point Matt and the Texans offense look primed for a strong season as the team is just moving the ball down for touchdowns on almost every drive. In this game Schaub was 11 of 16 for 97 yards and a touchdown as he picked apart the Saints defense all the way down the field.
Andre Johnson had a good game as he had 4 catches for 38 yards in short work tonight.
The Texans should be primed to make a playoff run in 2009 and their star players on the offensive side of the football should have a good year for your fantasy team.
