Pittsburgh Steelers 2009 Regular Season Schedule
Last season the Steelers won the super bowl mainly because they had the best conservative offense in the AFC. No doubt they will have a very strong defense again but if they plan on repeating this year the offensive line will have to play better in pass protection.
Below are three sections of interest that are worth paying attention to for fantasy owners coming into the season for this team. First we have listed our fantasy players which we believe are worth paying attention to this season. Next is strength of schedule against the run, pass and points against. Lastly we have a few games selected that will be key in telling how this team will preform for the 2009 season.
Strength of Schedule
vs Run 7th Easiest Schedule
vs Pass 11th Easiest Schedule
vs Points Given Up 14th Easiest Schedule
This season should be one of spreading the ball around to multiple players in the running game and the passing game. The main reason for this is because the Steelers have good capable depth in both categories and it would be wise to keep their players fresh and make defenses think twice about players like Rashard Mendenhall or Limas Sweed.
On paper the Steelers have a good schedule to take advantage of but because they are the super bowl champs every team will give them a little extra in every week. If Ben Roethlisberger can stay healthy than this team should have success once again.
Games of Interest
Weeks 15 – 17: In the last three weeks of the season Pittsburgh plays the Packers, Ravens and Dolphins to finish out the year. If the Steelers look strong and win these games it will say a lot about their chances of repeating in 2009.
If the Steelers come into these games healthy than I see no reason why they can’t win at least two to these contests.
2009 Football Projection
Look for the Steelers to edge out the Ravens for the division title once again as they have the better offense of the two. If the Steelers should happen to lose Big Ben for a period of time than that would leave the door open for the Ravens to have a chance to win the division over their rivals.
Even if the Ravens do win the division they must prove that they can beat teams like the Steelers and Patriots at home as those teams travel very well on the road. This should be an interesting grudge match as it was all of last season between these two winning organizations.
