Arizona Cardinals v Pittsburgh Steelers

Both the Steelers and the Cardinals meet up for their first contest since they both faced off in the Super Bowl. The game moved slowly as both teams struggled to score points in the first half. But as always there were a few situations and players worth paying attention too by nights end. Matt Leinart and Brian St. Pierre fight for the No.2 role Washington Redskins v Baltimore Ravens

In the first contest of this battle for the right to be Kurt Warner’s backup Matt Leinart won as he look not to bad against the Steelers defense. In the contest Matt went 8 of 14 for 83 passing yards. Leinart didn’t have any touchdowns but he did have a few steady drives as one went inside the red zone.

Brian St. Pierre did not fair as well in the second half of the game as he only went4 of 10 and did throw and interception. If Brian has any hope of beating out Matt for the No.2 job, he will have to pick it up and in a big way soon. Lamis Sweed looks Impressive Last week I wrote a column about how Lamis Sweed was looking good in camp as he had stepped up his game this year. With Nate Washington now gone to the Titans, Sweed is going to need to step it up in the third receiver role this year. Tonight Lamis looked great tonight as he had two receptions for 56 yards in the first half. His highlight play was when he had a 45 yard catch and went up in the air and took the ball over the defender.

Look for Sweed to help this team all year and make some big plays down the field.

Dennis Dixon is looking like a good young quarterback

I like what I saw from the second year quarterback out of Oregon. True I could be bias as I’m from Oregon (go Ducks) but Dennis Dixon looked like he is starting to catch on in the pro’s. Tonight Dennis was 10 of 19 for 112 yards passing.

We didn’t see Dixon flash his running skills and for my money that is ok because we all know he can do that and do it well. To see him succeed and look good in the pocket means more to me as it will be this part of his game that will provide him a chance to start on a pro team some day.
