Titans vs Buccaneers: Vince Young is Alive| Player Rankings
This was truly a game of starting quarterbacks looking bad and their talented backups looking good. As the Buccaneers and Titans faced off I wasn’t surprised to see the starting offenses struggle as these defenses have a history of being good. But as always there were interesting surprises and disappointments that have come from this game. Vince Young is Much Improved Last week at the hall of fame game Kerry Collins looked good in the starting role and Vince Young threw a horrible interception. True VY did bounce back in that game and connect for a touchdown on his last drive of work. This week was a completely different story as it was Collins that looked bad going 4 of 9 for 37 passing yards and 2 interceptions. Vince Young on the other hand looked like the player we used to see back when he was the starter a few years ago. Vince’s stat line was an impressive 9 of 14 for 131 yards passing and a 38 yard touchdown pass to rookie Kenny Britt .
Young even flashed his legs as he had 2 carry’s for 9 yards and one of those was for a first down. If Vince can continue to play this way it will bring a quarterback controversy in Tennessee and he may win his job back at some point this year.
Nate Washington and Kenny Britt
If you looked a the box scores for this game you wouldn’t find Nate Washington for any stats. But I was impressed that the two times Kerry Collins threw into the endzone for a touchdown he went to Nate as his main man. I liked Nate last week against the Bills and seeing the team go his way for the touchdown plays only makes me like him more.
First round pick rookie receiver Kenny Britt has not had the greatest offseason as he’s been injured. Last week he didn’t suit up for the game due to injury but this week he was in and played a big part in this game. Britt posted a nice 86 yards receiving on 5 catches and a touchdown in the contest. This was a very nice game from the rookie that head coach Jeff Fisher only seems to talk good things about when Kenny is brought up in conversation. Luke McCown and Byron Leftwich battle for Starting Job
I’ve been saying that the Buccaneers need to have Byron Leftwich as their starter if they have any chance for success this season. In the first preseason game it was Luke McCown that got the start and he did little to impress going 4 of 8 passing for only 19 yards.
This production will not win him the starting job especially seeing that Byron had a good game going 6 of 7 for 61 yards and a touchdown pass.
Look for Byron to start the second preseason game as he should be the favorite to start for this team after the performances of these two quarterbacks in the first preseason game.
