Minnesota Vikings v Indianapolis Colts

This game had interesting written all over it as the Colts and Vikings faced off in the first week of the preseason. Personally I wanted to see how Sage Rosenfels would hold up as the starter in the game and if he could make a solid showing to win the starting job. But their were other surprises in the game like Peyton Manning being sacked three times in the opening drive by the Vikings tenacious defense. This was interesting as I thought the Colts would hold the line better now that they still have offensive line coordinator Howard Mudd as coach.

Vikings vs. Colts

I’m sure the Colts will correct this problem but it was interesting to see the Vikings defense come out so strong in a preseason game.

Sage Rosenfels in line to Start week 1

From what I notice about this game, Sage Rosenfels looks primed to start over Travris Jackson at this point in time. Sage looked impressive in his first drive down he field going 5 for 5 on passing for 42 yards.

Chester Taylor plunged in a five yard touchdown run as he came in for Adrian Peterson around the goal line.

That drive in total lasted more then 7 minutes as they carved up the Colts defense right at the start of the game. In the end Rosenfels ended his night with a very nice stat line of 10 of 13 for 91 passing yards. Jackson on the other hand only had 7 of 15 for passing and for only 39 total yards. That performance will not get you to starting job and especially seeing that he did it against backup players.

Vikings vs. Colts

Visanthe Shiancoe looks good and Berrian goes down

Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe looked good as he was the favorite target of Sage in the first half going for 4 catches for 55 yards. This was a nice building block for Shiancoe whom had a nice season a year ago and has looked good in camp so far this year as well.

The bad news of the night was when No.1 receiver Bernard Berrian went down with a hamstring pull and had to be carted back to the club house from the trainers table. Hopefully they only put him on a cart because they were just be cautious with him.

Never the less fantasy owners should drop him a round or two in their rankings until we can see that Bernard is back and healthy on the field. Hamstring injuries are a killer for players like Berrian that rely on their speed to be successful.

Donald Brown Impressive for Colts

Minnesota Vikings v Indianapolis Colts

The one bright spot for the Colts tonight was the play of rookie running back Donald Brown as he looked good in the offense. His five carrie’s for 58 yards was highlighted by a very nice break away run of 38 yards.

I’ve been talking about Brown reeking havoc on Joseph Addai this season and his production in tonight’s game will do nothing to slow those predictions down.
