Ravens Football: Ray Rice Will Start | Player Rankings
Since the Ravens OTA’s started, Ray Rice has been running with the first team. Rice has backed up his solid play in camp with a terrific preseason. When I heard that Rice would be the starting tailback this Sunday, it wasn’t surprising.
While Rice should have a fine yardage game against the hapless Chiefs’ defense, I wonder if he will have a touchdown. Going one step further, I’m curious to see just how many scores Rice will have all year.
McGahee the Vulture?
Today Willis McGahee was asked about Rice being the starter, and he did confirm it was true. While Rice will receive more touches, McGahee should be the goal line runner.
When McGahee is not touching the ball inside the twenty, one has to believe that Le’Ron McClain will have chances after him.
McClain was the teams red zone man a season ago and had 11 total touchdowns. McClain is a beast of a fullback standing in at 6’0 and 260 pounds. This is the Brandon Jacobs type of guy a team would want in close quarters.
In all 140 touches Rice had a season ago, he did not score one touchdown. I’m sure Rice will have a touchdown here and there, but I don’t believe he will have more than five for this season.
Fantasy Football Ranking for Ray Rice
With heavy concerns about Rice’s ability to score, fantasy owners will have to rely on his total yards for most of his fantasy production. His value will be strongest in PPR leagues as he should have over 50 receptions this year.
Right now I would use Rice in match ups like this weekend against the Chiefs. In a game like this he has a great chance for 150 all purpose yards and a cheep touchdown.
When Rice plays more respectable teams you should use your other players, for now.
