Indianapolis Colts v Cincinnati Bengals

Tonight just about all the key starters for both teams did not play in this one as both the Bengals and Colts get ready for the regular season. In this game like many in the 4th week of the preseason we got a chance to see what the backups can do.

Jim Sorgi Plays Well

Last preseason Colts quarterback Jim Sorgi started every preseason game for the Colts as Peyton Manning was out from knee surgery. Sorgi played with decent results at times last preseason and so far when he’s had playing time in the regular season he’s faired well with six touchdowns and one interception.

While Sorgi is only in his 6th season in the NFL, it seems like this guy has been Manning’s backup quarterback ever since Manning came into the league in 1998.

In the time that Sorgi has backup the Colts super star, he has not started a regular season game as Manning has stayed healthy in his career. But if Manning should go down at any time it would be Sorgi that would have to lead this offense to success.

Tonight Sorgi was 11 of 19 passing for 119 yards and a touchdown pass to Taj Smith.

If Manning goes down for any time Sorgi will need to play the way he did tonight and the way we have seen him play in the regular season when he’s had a chance.

Jordan Palmer Throws Two Touchdowns

Carson Palmer’s brother Jordan Palmer is the Bengals third string quarterback and was the same last season in his rookie year.

In tonight’s game he was a little up and down as he went 8 of 16 passing for 75 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Right now Jordan has no fantasy value but maybe someday his brothers skill can rub off on him and he will be something in this league.
