Malcolm Kelly to Start over Devin Thomas | Redskin Football Rankings

Washington Redskins Mini Camp

When training camp opened, Devin Thomas was supposed to be the Redskins starting flanker receiver. This was supposed to be the year we saw Thomas break out and flash his talented skills.

Unfortunately, Thomas had another laps of focus in camp and the coaching staff choose a fellow second year receiver Malcolm Kelly to start.

Malcolm in the Middle

A month ago I thought that Thomas would make for a nice late round fantasy pick, but I wouldn’t recommend that today. Kelly is very talented but I would not recommend you pick him up off waivers, at this time. If you’re in a very deep fantasy league than he would be worth a roster spot.

At this point in time, if Kelly is going to be a solid fantasy contributor than he best have a strong start to the season. If not then the team could start Thomas in a few weeks to see what he can do.

The Need to Produce

Quarterback Jason Campbell is fighting for his starting career in the NFL this season. If he does not produce than Washington will find another quarterback this offseason.

Because of this situation, Kelly may very well end up producing for fantasy owners for at least a nice bye week fill in.

I have listed below the Redskins schedule for the first month of the season.

* WK 1- @ Giants
* WK 2- Rams
* WK 3- @ Lions
* WK 4- Buccaneers

The first and last games should be tough, but as you can see in weeks two and three, Kelly will have some big opportunities to show us what he can do.

Fantasy Football Rankings for Kelly and Thomas

In the first month of the season, we will find out which one of these two talented young receivers is worth their weight.

If you have either one of these receivers already, I would not take them off of your roster until at least after the third game of the season.
