Mike Bell Leads Muddled Saints Back Field | Football Rankings
What I found interesting is that the Saints only ran Reggie Bush 7 times for 14 yards. This shows me that the Saints are either keeping Bush fresh for the long haul, or they don’t feel he is a capable back to run with.
Pierre Thomas Practicing Again
On Wednesday Thomas took part in a full practice but some around Saints camp believe he won’t play this week. One reason for this is that he is practicing with a heavy knee brace.
This tells you that this knee injury is nothing small and the Saints are being very cautious about bringing him back. If Thomas can’t return this week, one would have to believe that Bell is primed for feature duties this week.
Even if Bell does become the feature runner for a few more weeks he won’t have it easy (like week one against the Lions). Below I have the Saints next five weeks of their schedule.
As you can see, even if Bell does get the feature duties for awhile, he has a hard schedule.
Fantasy Football Rankings for Saints Running Backs
Right now, I would expect Thomas to be the team’s goal line back once he returns. Look for Bell to continue to see the football in the first half the season as the team keeps Thomas and Bush healthy.
Bell is worth a roster spot on fantasy teams, if Thomas is out you might want to use him this week.
Bush’s value is best held in PPR leagues where you get points for all his receptions. Other than that I would not recommend you start him in other formats. We need to see the Saints show more commitment to give Bush the football in the running game.
