Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie Step Up for Colts | Football Rankings

NFL: Ravens vs Colts OCT 12

This was supposed to be Anthony Gonzalez breakout season. Instead he went down with a knee injury and will miss maybe 6 weeks, if not more. With this unfortunate news, Peyton Manning and Gonzalez owners are left wonder what to make of this situation.

Handling Anthony Gonzalez

First off, for all Gonzalez fantasy owners, if you have an injured reserve spot on your team than I suggest you place him on it. There is still plenty of time in the fantasy football season and Gonzalez could be very helpful down the stretch.

If you don’t have a IR spot in your league than you will have to weigh your options, to see if he is worth holding. For my money, I would at least hold onto him for the next two weeks and see if progress is made.

The Colts think he may miss somewhere between 2 – 6 weeks, so if he is at least practicing again by the start of October, you should keep him.

Who to Pick Up?

Right now second year receiver Pierre Garcon is expected to start over rookie Austin Collie (4th round pick). Out of the two receivers, I would go with Garcon as he is more of a deep threat receiver and has good leaping abilities.

While Garcon may start, I would only recommend you use him as a bye week fill in, for now. We need to see if he can deliver more than 3 catches for 24 yards, as he did against the Jaguars.

Peyton Manning’s Fantasy Football Ranking

While the loss of Gonzalez does not help Manning’s fantasy value, he should still be a fine fantasy option. In last week’s game, we saw a preview of what to expect from Manning in future weeks.

Gonzalez went down in the first quarter, and after he was gone, Manning spread the ball around to 8 different players. The two pass catchers that got the majority of looks were Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark.

I would expect Manning to use both players early and often every week. With the rest of his receivers and running backs getting the ball to help out.

In the end Manning has a very favorable passing schedule this season and should produce good numbers.
