Vikings vs 49ers: Vernon Davis Strong in Heart Breaking Loss | NFL Player Rankings
The 49ers gave the Vikings everything they could handle but at the end of the day it wasn’t enough. Brett Favre showed the football world why he is, in fact, Brett Favre as he threw an amazing touchdown to win the game.
Frank Gore Goes Down Early
Last week Frank Gore injured his ankle against the Seahawks. This week on his first carry of the game, he re-injured the ankle and had to be carted off from the sidelines. It is not known if Gore will play next week against the Rams, so you might want to give Glen Coffee a look in waivers.
Coffee had 20 carries today and would be the feature runner, if in fact, Gore is out.
Vernon Davis has Strong Game
The 49ers have been waiting for Vernon Davis to be their go to guy in the passing game. This season he looks like he is finally going to be that player as he’s had a good start to the season.
Today, Davis had seven catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns. The 49ers gave the Vikings everything they could handle in this game, and Davis was a big reason why.
Look for Davis to be a factor in fantasy football going forward.
Percy Harvin and Brett Farve Step Up Big
The Vikings’ rookie receiver Percy Harvin helped out once again in the passing game with four catches and 51 yards. While this was good production, it was his 101 yard touchdown on a kickoff return that had the biggest impact.
Brett Favre showed us all why he was worth all the headaches from this offseason when he made an amazing throw with seconds left in the game.
On the throw Favre found Greg Lewis in the back of the end zone and Lewis made a fabulous catch.
This was a heart breaker for the 49ers, but they proved today that they are worthy of contending for a playoff spot.
