Baltimore Ravens v Minnesota Vikings

This past week we saw some interesting things go down in the NFL. First the Raiders beat the Eagles and fantasy football owners must have been tearing their hair out over the Eagles’ production.

Secondly, we saw Tom Brady and the Patriots offense play like they did back in 2007 as Brady had six touchdowns and 380 passing yards in just over two quarters of play.

Below we have the top players you might want to pay attention to, for waiver pickups. Even if you don’t select a waiver (or have already done so) it’s good to keep these names in mind for the future weeks.

Quarterbacks

Ravens- Joe Flacco- Bye Week 7

This week Joe Flacco and the Ravens are off, but if he is available on waivers you might want to snatch him up. Flacco seems to be taking over more control of his offense and team as every game goes by.

This past week against the Vikings, Flacco took another step towards being a fantasy football starter by having a terrific second half.

With the team just about only using Ray Rice in the backfield it forces them to use the passing game more often. Look for Flacco to continue his success after the bye.

Running Backs

Patriots- Laurence Maroney- Bye Week 8

Laurence Maroney got the call with Sammy Morris out with a leg injury, and he had a great game. Against the Titans, Maroney had 16 carries for 123 yards and a long touchdown run.

This week the Patriots travel to England and play the sorry Buccaneers defense. Maroney should get another start and could be a big help for your fantasy football team.

Dolphins- Ricky Williams- Bye Week 6 (Done)

The Dolphins will continue to use both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams a bunch with a new quarterback. Putting the game in the running backs hands is probably the best way for this team to win weekly.

Williams has quietly had a serviceable season, and I expect him to continue to put up decent numbers the rest of the way.

Wide Receivers

Vikings- Sidney Rice- Bye Week 9

It’s time to start believing in Sidney Rice as he’s been the teams No.1 receiver over the last month or so. Against the Ravens, Rice had a breakout game with six receptions for 176 yards.

Brett Favre is looking to Rice more and more and there is no doubt that he like throwing to this talented receiver.

Rice struggled for his first two seasons in the NFL but maybe that was because he didn’t have a quality quarterback under center.

Tight Ends

Raiders- Zach Miller- Bye Week 9

Quietly, Raiders tight end Zach Miller has put up decent production over the past few weeks. With over 200 yards and one touchdown in that time he is clearly the best receiving target on his team.

If you pick Miller up, he would best be used as a bye week fill in player. The Raiders are not going to be good anytime soon in the passing game but Miller could be serviceable.

Defenses

Cardinals- Cardinals Defense- Bye Week 4 (Done)

The Cardinals’ defense had a very impressive road game against their division rival Seattle Seahawks. This defense completely shut down a solid passing game and held the Seahawks to only three points in the game.

They also got to Matt Hasselbeck with pressure as they sacked him five times on the day.

Look for the Cardinals’ defense to be a decent fill in starter for your team if they play games against their division.
