Patriots- Panthers: Wes Welker Steps Up Again| NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

Carolina Panthers v New England Patriots

The Patriots are struggling and in this game, they needed to find a way a win. While this game was very close until the fourth quarter, the Patriots did win the game 20 to 10.

Wes Welker Playing Great

If you have Wes Welker in a PPR fantasy football league than your enjoying a great season. Welker started the season slow because of injury but has been on fire since returning to the field.

In this game, he did the dirty work for the Patriots’ offense that watched Randy Moss play his worst game as a Patriot. Welker had ten receptions for 105 yards as he continually set his team up to produce points.

Tom Brady had another poor game and hurt many fantasy owners for their championship hopes with this effort.

I can’t blame Brady that much because he is all beat up with three or four injuries that are slowing him down. The Panthers also have one of the better pass defenses in football and that slowed this great offense down.

Steve Smith Steps Up

Carolina Panthers v New England Patriots

The Panthers’ star receiver Steve Smith hasn’t had a very good season, but it was easy to see that he isn’t the reason why. Jake Delhomme’s arm is shot, and today it’s easy to see that Smith could have produced a better season with Matt Moore under center this year.

Early in this game Moore threw a very nice deep ball to Smith for a 41-yard touchdown catch as Smith beat man coverage.

For the game Smith didn’t receive many catches (two), but he did end up with 83 yards and the touchdown catch. Next year I still like Smith as a top twenty fantasy receiver, if Delhomme is either off the team or on a very short leash.
