Jets- Bengals: Shonn Greene Breaks Out | NFL Playoff Fantasy Football

New York Jets v Cincinnati Bengals - Wild Card Round

The fantasy football playoffs kicked off with the Bengals and Jets playing in Cincinnati. At first it looked like the Bengals had a good chance to win as they took a seven to nothing lead but after that the Jets took flight.

Breakout Rookies

Early in the game, Jets running back Thomas Jones was having a hard time finding room to run. This led to the team switching things up and going with rookie Shonn Greene for most of the game, and he had a fabulous effort.

For the game, Greene carried the football 21 times for 135 yards and a sparkling 39-yard touchdown run.

This effort helped open things up for rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez as he completed 12 of 15 pass attempts for 182 yards and a touchdown pass. Sanchez found his tight end Dustin Keller three times for 99 yards and a great touchdown catch and run.

As nice as that touchdown pass was, Sanchez should have had one before that as he found Braylon Edwards, deep down, the field and hit him in the hands, in the end zone. Unfortunately, Edwards has stone hands and let the football drop for an incompletion.

While Edwards drop was a disappointment, that was the only down note for the Jets as a team, as they won the game and move on to the second round.

Cedric Benson Has Great Game

The Bengals struggled mightily in the passing game as all their receivers were banged up, and they faced the top pass defense in the NFL.

One player that did rise to the occasion was the Bengals star running back Cedric Benson as he carried the football 21 times for 169 yards and an explosive 47-yard touchdown run.

The touchdown came at a pivotal time in the game as the Bengals needed to make a play, down by two touchdowns. Unfortunately, the defense couldn’t stop Sanchez and Keller as they drove down the field for an AJ Feely field goal.

While that was a bad drive, it was the Bengals veteran kicker Shayne Graham’s two missed field goals that put the knife in this teams back.

Graham missed on field goals from 35 and 28 yards out. The 28 yard field goal would have put the team down by only a touchdown with less than five minutes left in the game. That miss basically ended the teams’ chances of coming back.

Next year, the Bengals need to show improvement in the passing game if they hope to progress in the playoffs next year.
