Steelers- Dolphins: Big Ben Throws Three TD’s | NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

Pittsburgh Steelers v Miami Dolphins

The Steelers pulled out a big win against the Dolphins but need help in later games to make the playoffs. At least for Pittsburgh’s sake they can feel good about the way they’ve played their final games of the season heading into next year.

Davone Bess Has Another Good Game

I’m not sure if Dolphins second year receiver Davone Bess will be a player worth drafting next year or not. This kid has talent but we need to see Bess have a strong camp and win a starting job out right.

One thing I can say about Bess is that he has an ability to show up at the end of the NFL and fantasy season to be a productive player.

In this game Bess had five receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown score from backup quarterback Tyler Thigpen.

Again, if Bess is going to have fantasy value next year, we need to see him win a job in the summer and start producing earlier in the season. As it stands right now, Bess is a decent waiver wire pickup when you get into the final six weeks of the fantasy football season.

Mendenhall and Parker Run Hard

Rashard Mendenhall and Willie Parker may not have scored a touchdown in this game but both runners had good rushing totals.

For the game, both running backs went over 90 yards rushing each as the Steelers controlled the game on the ground.

While this was good for their team it wasn’t good for fantasy owners with Mendenhall. We need to see Mendenhall fully take over as the Steelers feature running back if he is going to be more than a flex play option next season.

As for the passing game Ben Roethlisberger had another three touchdown passes in this game and his rookie receiver Mike Wallace had another long touchdown score from 54 yards out.

With the emergence of Wallace, fellow receivers Hines Ward and Santonio Homles are now less valuable options in fantasy. Having this young talent as a third option makes it harder for the two veteran starters to accumulate big touchdown seasons and this will limit their respective values next season.

As for Big Ben, his value gets a bump as he now has four solid targets to throw the football to in this offense.

With all that being said, the Steelers seem to change their style of play almost every year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they run the football and play better defense next year. Improvements in each of those categories would make it so that the team won’t have to rely on their passing game as much.

Don’t over pay for Steelers players next year at your fantasy football draft.
