NFL Combine Results- Bench Press – OL, TE

While the bench press is done by every position at the combine, the offensive players that matter most are on the offensive line and the tight ends. Sure, the bench shows strength for other players but let’s face it, those two positions are going to do the heavy lifting for the offense.
Okung Takes Second
While top offensive line prospect Russell Okung turned in a rep total of 38 (benching 225 lb) it was fellow lineman Mitch Petrus that turned in the best performance. Petrus bested Okung with an impressive mark of 45 reps and that was a land slide over the rest of the pack.
With this performance Petrus seemed out to a great start at the combines but on Saturday, he pulled a hammy while running his 40 time. After the injury Petrus was basically shut down for the rest of the workouts and a once promising start was left with uncertain doubts.
Still, Petrus’s bench reps can’t be ignored, and it should only help his odds of finding a respectable draft selection.
Dorin Dickerson Steals The Show
Even thougth tight end Dorin Dickerson is undersized at around 6’1 and under 220, he has had a marvelous combine. Dickerson was in first place in a few different drills, and he even finished fourth best in the bench press. With room to grow, Dickerson should be a lock to catapult up into the second round of the draft.
As for fellow tight end Dennis Pitta, he had an impressive bench as he finished second overall with 27 reps. Pitta has very nice hands and is a natural pass catcher. Some questioned Pitta’s strength and ability to block but with this rep total it should help slow down some of those doubts.
