Chester Taylor Is On The Move | 2010 NFL Free Agency

Minnesota Vikings v Houston Texans

While no official word has come down yet it looks like Chester Taylor is all but done as a Minnesota Viking. Taylor will  be a free agent this offseason and the Vikings aren’t expected to obtain his services.

For Taylor’s future, it looks like he will probably end up on a team like the Houston Texans. Don’t expect any organization to use Taylor as the teams feature runner, but he should be used in a heavy two running back committee.

For the Vikings, it will be interesting just how much Adrian Peterson will be on the field in every game. Taylor has always provided a great change of pace runner to Peterson for the past three seasons.

With the Vikings unable to rely on a proven veteran it may lead the team to keeping Peterson on the field for more time.

One running back that I still hold out hope for on the Vikings is Ian Johnson from Boise State. Johnson was an unrestricted free agent sign last year and spent the regular season on the teams’ practice squad.

One skill I like that could make him Peterson’s backup is his speed, Johnson finished as the second fastest running back (4.46 the  40 yard dash) at the 2009 combine.

Either Johnson or another running back will have to fill the gap left behind by Taylor if  this team hopes to be a top ten running team once again.
