Colt McCoy To Participate At Scouting Combine

Big 12 Championship - Nebraska v Texas
It looks like Texans Longhorn quarterback Colt McCoy will participate at the NFL rookie scouting combine next week. Some thought McCoy might pass on the scouting combine because of his shoulder injury that he suffered in the college championship game against Alabama.

With a month and a half to heal the injury, McCoy seems primed and ready to show what he can do. Hopefully, a strong impression can be made as he is projected to be drafted after fellow quarterbacks Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen.

Still, McCoy should be drafted before the weekend (first two rounds) and will be inline to have a chance to be some NFL teams starting quarterback in a few years.

While McCoy didn’t have as good a year statically in his last season (in comparison to the year before) some NFL scouts point to the way (poorly) his team played in the championship game as a showcase of how valuable this quarterback is. After McCoy left the game the Longhorns were over-matched by Alabama and didn’t seem to have a chance.

Is McCoy Dynasty Worthy?

McCoy, like many rookie quarterbacks will take a few years to develop before he is ready to make an impact in the NFL. At this time, I wouldn’t suggest McCoy be drafted in dynasty leagues because it’s going to be awhile for him to develop, and I’m not sure he will make for a good fantasy football quarterback.

If McCoy goes to an offensive team like the Indianapolis Colts it would be intriguing and that might make for a decent scenario to sit on this kid for a few years and wait. Just the same it may be a few years before we find out what this quarterback is made of.
