Richard Seymour To Get Franchise Tag
The Oakland Raiders are expected to use their franchise tag of defensive end Richard Seymour. The Raiders traded away their first round pick in the 2011 draft to obtain Seymour from the New England Patriots, just days before the 2009 season started.
Keeping Seymour helps insure that the Raiders will have hope to fix their ailing defensive line as we get set for the 2010 season.
Now, the Raiders would be best served to draft an impact defensive tackle in this years NFL draft. One possible player that the Raiders may draft with the eighth overall pick is defensive tackle Brian Price form UCLA.
Price would make a good fit as fellow tackles Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy will be long gone by the time the Raiders pick.
As far as Seymour’s production, I believe he will have a greater impact on the Raiders’ defense this season as opposed to last year. This year Seymour will have a year under his belt with his fellow teammates and can take on more of a leadership role.
Last year Seymour was just thrown into the lineup without anytime to get to know his teammates or get his life situated. Expect the Raiders to be improved on run defense with Seymour back, and if they draft an impact tackle at this years’ draft.
