Is This Randy Moss’s Final Year In New England? | NFL Rumors

Jacksonville Jaguars v New England Patriots

In a recent interview with Randy Moss, the ultra talented receiver commented on his contract with the New England Patriots. Moss who is in the final year of a three year deal, noted that he believes this will be his final year with the Patriots because the team probably won’t offer him a new deal.

Since so much success has come in the passing game between Moss and Tom Brady, one has to wonder why the Patriots wouldn’t be willing to obtain their star receiver?

If the team is willing to let go of Moss it could be a tip of the hand that the Patriots are getting ready to run a more conservative offense this coming year. This idea makes sense as Brady has been injured more in a pass heavy attack, and it’s not like the team has won a championship with their new style of the offense, since obtaining Moss.

No, the Patriots didn’t win their three Super Bowls with a pass heavy attack but a balanced attack that saw the team rely on the running game at the end of the year.

One could make a case that the New York Giants beat the Patriots with the very same approach that won the Patriots their three championships.

Fantasy Football Outlook for 2010

With Wes Welker all but done for this coming season (even when he gets back it won’t be at full strength) and the threat of running the football more, it looks like Brady is losing fantasy value. Less talent on the field and fewer opportunities to rack up yardage, Brady is looking more like the sixth or seventh best quarterback for fantasy this year, than one of the best in all of fantasy.

While Brady’s stock should go down a bit, if I had to rank receivers one through 50, today, I would rank Moss as the top receiver (outside of PPR leagues) to draft.

Even with fewer opportunities to produce, Moss will still total a strong season for fantasy football. Andre Johnson would be a close second, but he just doesn’t score enough touchdowns to be a true No.1 receiver outside of PPR leagues.

If Moss should go elsewhere in 2011, I would expect the Patriots to be even more run friendly as Brady continues to age and has less talent around him.
