QB Shaun Hill Goes To Detroit Lions
After the San Francisco 49ers signed veteran quarterback David Carr it was obvious that Shaun Hill was headed else where. Now, the 49ers have found a suitor for Hill in a trade with the Detroit Lions.
The deal is minimal as the 49ers will receive a seventh round pick in the 2011 NFL draft. While they will have to wait another year, at least they could acquire some compensation for the former 2009 opening day starter.
With this move, the 49ers now have Alex Smith, second year quarterback Nate Davis and Carr. It looks like Smith will be the clear starter headed into this season, but it will be interesting to see how Carr performs.
Carr was thoroughly beaten down in his days with the Houston Texans but look good in spot play with the New York Giants. Maybe some time off was just what Carr needed to find a rebirth in his career.
At one time former first overall pick (like Carr) Jim Plunkett was drafted by the Patriots and had a good rookie year. Then with a very bad team around him, Plunkett struggled and was beaten up.
The Oakland Raiders sat Plunkett down for a season to get his head together and Plunkett went on to have a fine career after that. He even led the Raiders to two Super Bowl championships.
I’m not expecting Carr to play that well, but I do believe his time spent in New York was helpful.
