S Antrel Rolle Is Headed To The New York Giants

2010 AFC-NFC Pro Bowl

The New York Giants needed to upgrade in the secondary this offseason and they have now added former Cardinal safety and pro bowler Antrel Rolle. Now, the Cardinals have lost Rolle, Karlos Dansby and Anquan Boldin in the past 24 hours. When you combine that with Kurt Warner and Bertrand Berry retiring, you can see that this team will go through an adjustment period in 2010.

As for the Giants, they needed to grab a player like Rolle in free agency because fellow safety Kenny Phillips had microfracture knee surgery, and it’s unknown how he will respond when he comes back. Rolle received a contract with the team for 37 million over five years and 15 million is guaranteed.

The former Arizona safety may not be the best around, but he can make plays and because he was a former corner back he has good range on the field. Still, don’t expect Rolle to solve all the Giants’ problems in the secondary, and I suspect they will do their best to build more depth in the draft.
