Can C.J. Spiller Save The Buffalo Bills Offense? | 2010 NFL Fantasy Projections

C.J. Spiller of Clemson University stands with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in New York

It’s nice to draft an impact player with the type of game breaking ability runner C.J. Spiller has to offer. Spiller can provide you with instant field position or points on one big play from anywhere on a football field. While it’s nice to see the Bills select a runner like this, fantasy owners can’t help but wonder if he will be effective with the team around him?

At first it looked like Spiller’s arrival to Buffalo would mean the end for Marshawn Lynch but so far GM Buddy Nix maintains that Lynch will still be on the team this season. I’m not sure if he will be with them by opening day, but I do know if they trade him now they will get very little in return.

If Lynch can turn it around, he would be a much better help to the team than what they would get in return for him.

Nix’s did go on to compare Spiller to a Reggie Bush, Percy Harvin type of talent, which is a very popular slash player these days. The Chiefs even drafted a runner with a similar style in the early second round in Dexter McCluster.

Look for the Bills to move Spiller around as a running back and line him up in the slot as a receiver.

2010 Fantasy Football Projection For C.J. Spiller

Because the Bills have one of the worst offensive lines (didn’t address this area at the draft), and they have no deep passing game, be conservative with your expectations on Spiller in 2010.

If he can stay healthy and help the Bills all season long that would be a great help to his team and to my hopes for him in future years.

Right now, Spiller has too much working against him from a team perspective to be an accountable starter in fantasy from week one on. This makes Spiller a gamble as a flex play option to start the year but a very nice player to add on for depth.

By seasons end, he could easily be starting for you every week but early on the Bills will probably use Lynch, Fred Jackson and Spiller in a rotation.
