Jets Release LG Alan Faneca
So far, this offseason I’ve liked most of the moves the Jets have made to get ready for a Super Bowl run in 2010. At the draft, the Jets did a good job in the first two rounds by acquiring corner back Kyle Wilson and guard Vladimir Ducasse.
With the addition of Ducasse, the Jets then released Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca later in the night. Reason for the release seem to stem from his apparent lack of production in the 2009 season. Seeing that Faneca was a Pro Bowler last season, it’s hard to believe he was that bad.
This move I disagree with as the Jets now don’t have the solid guard that set the table for the offensive line when he came over from Pittsburgh in 2008. As soon as Faneca came to the team Thomas Jones had two fantastic seasons and Shonn Greene was a star in the playoffs.
With Faneca gone this offensive line will have to rely on Ferguson and Mangold as the new leader veterans on the line. That is a very good duo to rely on and they will have good years. Problem is they don’t play guard and now the team will have to go with a much lesser talent and proven player at Faneca’s pivotal left guard position.
My rankings for everyone on this team has just gone down some for the up coming 2010 fantasy football season.
