Ryan Mathews In The San Diego Chargers Offense | 2010 NFL Fantasy Rankings
Ryan Mathews hit fantasy gold when the Chargers traded up to acquire him in the first round. The Chargers clearly needed a running back to fill the shoes left by LaDainian Tomlinson.

Just days after Mathews was selected his head coach Norv Turner predicted that his rookie runner would see close to 300 touches in his rookie season. That is a good work load for most runners and a great sign for a rookie’s fantasy value.
Not only should Mathews be the main runner in this offense, but he will also get opportunities to catch the football. In this offense, the Chargers love to throw the football to their runners underneath and let them rack up yardage.
Beyond that Mathews will also take over as the teams goal line running option for touchdowns.
Put all that together with a top notch passing attack and a great team and you have this years top fantasy rookie to draft. This type of opportunity doesn’t come around often for a rookie running back and that makes Mathews at least a third round pick in many fantasy drafts this up coming summer.
