The Future: Carolina Panthers QB Jimmy Clausen | 2010 NFL Fantasy Projections
The Carolina Panthers received an unexpected surprise to see Jimmy Clausen fall to them in the middle of the second round. Upon the Panthers’ selection, then jumped all over Clausen and even draft LSU standout receiver Brandon LaFell in the third round for a future weapon in the offense.

While Clausen should be a good quarterback for a long time, he probably won’t be a starter until late in the 2010 season at the earliest. I say this because Matt Moore has clearly earned the starting job, this season and his play last season allowed the Panthers to part ways with Jake Delhomme at the start of free agency.
Beyond Moore’s play, head coach John Fox is very loyal to his veterans and always goes with them over a rookie with high upside. Even though Clausen may not play much in 2010, his lack of play is probably a very good thing for his long term development.
It is very hard for a quarterback to come in and play respectable football in his rookie year and often times it helps to have a year to develop in the background before a quarterback takes live action weekly.
By 2011, Clausen will probably be the teams starting quarterback if Moore fails to lead the Panthers to the playoffs in 2010.
