WR Arrelious Benn & The Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 2010 Fantasy Projections
Josh Freeman finally has himself a true talent at receiver after the team parted ways with Antonio Bryant this offseason. The Buccaneers used their a second round pick to select Arrelious Benn after they drafted two defensive tackles with their first two picks in the draft.
Selecting Benn was of the up most importance to young quarterback Freeman’s development as he needed a play making receiver to go with ultra talent tight end Kellen Winslow.
Look for the Buccaneers to be a heavy run first team once again in 2010, but at some point they may open things up for Freeman if Benn is ready to produce on a consistent basis. While the Buccaneers coaching staff maintains that Benn will have to earn a starting job, he should be in the starting lineup come week one.
Benn didn’t have a great final season in college as he was on a bad team but for some reason I believe he will have a good pro career. This usually isn’t the case for receivers drafted by the Buccaneers over the years but in Benn’s case I just have a feeling he will do well.
Some compare him to Marvin Harrison for his physical tools and mostly because of his supposedly solid work ethic. Having a strong work ethic is of the up most importance if your going to be successful at the NFL level and you can’t rely on just talent alone.
Even with talent and hard work, Benn needs Freeman to be a successful quarterback to have a strong fantasy football impact throughout the early years of his career.
2010 Fantasy Projection For Benn
Assuming Benn does land the starting job, he will be the teams instant No.1 receiver and that means he has fantasy value for 2010. That value probably won’t be more than a late round selection but on this team he should get a decent amount of opportunities to make plays.
If the light bulb comes on early for Benn in his pro career he could be the top producing rookie receiver in 2010.
