WR Demaryius Thomas & The Denver Broncos | 2010 Fantasy Projections
I don’t like to project an NFL rookies fantasy ranking until after the draft and all the youngsters are officially on a team. This is mainly because so much in a players value goes into where they were selected team wise and which players are around them.
For wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, he is in a decent situation, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Dez Bryant out plays him in 2010. Thomas, unlike Bryant should be a starter, even before we get to week one of the 2010 season. This is because the Broncos are desperate for another big play receiver to fill the void that is left behind by the trade of Brandon Marshall.
Thomas in many ways reminds me of a Hakeem Nicks type receiver, in that he is big and yet has enough play making ability to be a deep threat every week .
Nicks had a slow start to his rookie season but by mid year he was starting for the Giants and was even on fantasy rosters. Thomas may not have to fight with anyone for time, but he also won’t have Eli Manning throw the football to him.
This is probably the reason why Thomas may have problems with consistency this up coming season. Quarterback Kyle Orton should be the starter from day one, and he is a decent game manager. Problem is, now that Tim Tebow is on the team, who knows what they are going to do with him and when he will take over as the starter.
Even when Tebow gets into the starting lineup, you have to figure he will take his lumps along the way to learning what it takes to be successful at the NFL level.
2010 Fantasy Projection for Demaryius Thomas
At this time, even if Thomas is a starter come week one I wouldn’t suggest you look at him as more than a late round draft pick to stash away on your roster. Thomas does have lots of talent and at times he will probably have some good days this up coming year.
Still, it’s very hard for a rookie receiver to come in and be an accountable option for fantasy weekly. If Thomas had a more reliable quarterback situation, I could see him posting a respectable year.
