Houston Texans: OTA, Mini Camps – Schedule
After the NFL draft, teams crank up their rookie and OTA (organized team activities) camps in May and June to get their players prepped for the up coming 2010 season. This time of year can be often over looked by many a fantasy football owner but at this time, young stars and unknown names come out and impress their coaches to challenge for future starting jobs come September.
Below we have the Houston Texans projected OTA schedule for May and June. Come back and check in for information that we find key for the success or concern for the Texans future success.
OTA Schedule
May 17-20, May 24-27, June 1-3, June 8-10
Mini Camp Schedule
June 14-16
May 7th, Cushing Suspended
LB Brian Cushing is going to miss the first four games of this season due to a suspension for abusing the leagues steroid policy. This will obviously hurt Cushing’s fantasy value in IDP leagues but it will also hurt the Texans defense for the first month. This is not the kind of news the Texans need if they hope to make the playoffs for the first time.
May 16th, Slaton 100%?
Steve Slaton recently proclaimed himself 100% healthy and ready to go for the up coming season. While this is good news to hear I have a hard time believe Slaton is fully healthy when he can’t take physical contact until July.
Look for Slaton to be the teams third down runner as he is coming off surgery to his neck area.
May 24th, Arian Foster Running With First Team
Arian Foster made an impression on his team at the end of last season as he was the starting running back. Still, the team selected Ben Tate in the second round of the draft and they still have Slaton as a third down runner. At this time, Foster is the runner with the first team as Tate and Slaton have injuries.
Tate has fallen way behind the rest of the pack because of his hamstring injury. If he should miss a good amount of time it could be Foster that is the teams starting tail back come week one. Slaton will be the teams third down back as his neck injury won’t allow him to be the main man this year.
May 28th, Jones To Push Walter For Starting Job
Jacoby Jones seemed like the obvious choice to take over the teams No.2 receiving job when Kevin Walter left for free agency. Instead the Texans gave Walter eight million garunteed and kept him in Houston. Now, Jones and Walter are fighting it out for the teams No.2 job opposite Andre Johnson.
It’s worth noting that Jones isn’t handle return duties any longer as Trenden Holliday has taken over. Look for Jones to be the starter at some point.
