2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Derrick Ward came over in free agency last offseason from the Giants and was expected to fight for the starting job. By the start of the season, it was made clear that Cadillac Williams would be the teams starter and Ward would be his backup. On the season Ward only totaled 115 carries and a 3.6 yard per carry average.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: While we thought Ward would see more work in 2009 it looks like he should see more in a committee this year. So far, in camp Williams is still projected to be the Buccaneers starter as he played all sixteen games last season. Ward will be his backup once again, but he should see around 150 carries this up coming year.

For the 2010 fantasy football season Ward’s impact will be felt most in taking away key carries from Williams more than his own value. Don’t select Ward on draft day as the Buccaneers aren’t a winning team and will play from behind most of the year.
