College / 2010 NFL Draft: Armanti Edwards enjoyed a great career in college as a quarterback with a small school. Coming into the draft Ewards was slated as a wide receiver for a pro team to draft and that is where he will play in future years.

In the middle rounds the Panthers selected Edwards and Brandon LaFell as young receivers to mature with Jimmy Clausen as they look to retool the passing game.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Edwards probably won’t make a big impact in his rookie season, but he may have himself a successful career. So far, in camp he is wowing his coaches with his explosive ability on the field and how well he’s already picking up the receiver position.

Many quarterbacks that transition to receiver tend to have a good idea of what is going on in the game and how to find holes in the defense. For Edwards, it will probably take him until his second or third year before he truly ready to threaten for a starting job, but he should be good progress this year.

Don’t look for Edwards at your fantasy draft this year as he has much to prove and Coach John Fox love to start his veterans to a fault. Still, this is a name you should remember as Steve Smith is getting older and in a couple of years Jimmy Clausen should be ready to do some damage in as the starting quarterback.
