August ESPN Auction Fantasy Football Mock Draft – Ten Team Draft Results
Mock drafts are always a good way to get an idea of the value different players are going for as we get set for real drafts to start. In this Auction, ten team mock draft, I took Frank Gore as my highest player off the board.
While I was happy with my depth, looking back, I wished I’d spent more for a stronger No.2 running back. Felix Jones ended up being my second option at the position, and I feel he’s best suited to be an owners flex play to start the season.
With Marion Barber still lurking in the back ground it can easily be a situation that doesn’t provide solid fantasy points weekly. Furthermore, factoring in Jones’s past health problems and this is a set up for disappointment to count on him as a No.2 option.
Beyond that blunder of a move on my part I also have some notes below for different players who were selected in this mock draft.
Tony Romo: $ 30 – I’ve seen Tony Romo go for less than this in a 200 dollar cap Auction draft a few times this summer, and it looks like he should be a decent value pick for 2010. Just two seasons ago Romo was a top two quarterback to select in just about every fantasy format on the planet.
True, Dez Bryant’s injury took some steam off the hype of Romo being a hot fantasy option in August but remember that Romo tends to start the season strong every year. Last season Romo had a huge game against the Buccaneers to open the season and that hasn’t been the first time he’s done that.
Even if Bryant is slow to begin the season, I believe the youngster will provide a nice target as the year moves along. If you don’t get Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning or even Matt Schaub then give Romo a shot this season.
Knowshon Moreno: $ 19 – Early this summer I was high on Knowshon Moreno as a possible breakout runner as he showed his big play burst in OTA’s. Moreno attributed his lack of big plays in his rookie season to not trusting his instincts and running to a gap he saw open up.
Unfortunately, as many fantasy owners know by now Moreno suffered a nasty hamstring injury in camp, and that can be a killer for running backs. Just look at Matt Forte last season, he injured his hammy in the summer and didn’t play the same in year two.
Now, I will say in Forte’s situation, he also suffered a knee injury to being the regular season so maybe theirs some hope left for Moreno. Still, just seeing Moreno going in Auction mock drafts at around twenty dollars shows you fantasy owners don’t believe he’s ready for a breakout season.
If you can purchase Moreno at this price as your flex play option, I think that could still be a very nice move for your squad. Just make sure you get some decent depth on the bench if he can’t bounce back from his injury.
