NFL Point Spread For Week Two
On we move to week two of the 2010 NFL season and the point spreads are up for this weeks games. The Giants beat the Panthers after all last week and atoned for their embarrassing loss to Carolina last year. While this was a big win for New York many playoff teams from a year ago (seven to be exact) lost week one.
One of the bigger upsets had to be the Cowboys losing to the Redskins as the hype has been huge for Dallas to win the Super Bowl and dominant throughout the season. Tony Romo almost pulled out a last second touchdown but his right tackle was called for holding and left the Cowboys stunned at the end.
Cowboys vs Bears
This week the Cowboys are eight point favorites against the Bears in Dallas, but I would probably stay away from hoping the Cowboys win by that margin. Dallas has offensive line problems, and they’ve struggled since the preseason to get the football in the end zone.
Until they prove they can start scoring the way we are used to seeing it will be hard for me to believe they can cover big spread projections.
Packers vs Bills
This week the Packers have the biggest point spread of any team as they are projected to crush the Bills at Lambeau field. With Ryan Grant done for the season, it will be up to Brandon Jackson to exploit the Bills rush defense that will be without star linebacker Paul Posluszny.
The Bills were horrible against the run in 2009 and they have poor depth after Andra Davis on the inside of the linebacking core. This should lead to the Packers controlling the game on the ground and probably living up to their lofty projected point spread.
Colts vs Giants
One interesting game will be the Sunday night contest between the Colts and Giants as the Manning brother will face off. The Colts are 5 point favorites, but they may vary well lose this game. The Giants should attack the Colts on the ground with Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs.
Last week Arian Foster ran all over this team and Peyton Manning took some big hits as his offensive line is shaky. It wouldn’t surprise me the least to see the Colts drop another game and maybe Peyton will be a little dinged up after this one.
Cardinals vs Falcons
The Falcons lost to the Steelers and some annalists gave Matt Ryan a bad grade in this game. Failing to read basic coverages doesn’t say much about the third year starter with high expectations. If the Falcons are going to make the playoffs this season Ryan needs to step up and play better football.
Michael Turner was also a non factor against the Steelers and this week should be a good test for him against the Cardinals defense. Turner was supposed to be in much better shape this offseason than in the previous year. If that is true than we should see him total at least close to 100 yards and a score in this game.
For now, it’s hard for me to believe in the Falcons to cover a 6.5 point spread until they display a strong offense. The Cardinals have their issues but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a close low scoring game.
