Break out the barbecue grills. Place a huge order for takeout hot wings. The NFL season is upon us.

Week 1 presents a lot of fun matchups, especially between teams that struggled last year. Cleveland versus Tampa Bay. Atlanta versus Pittsburgh. Detroit versus Chicago. Miami versus Buffalo. Right away, teams will know that they’ve either improved or that they have a lot of work to do. With all these bad teams squaring off, expect the defenses to be the difference.

This week’s IDP rankings are similar to what you might expect them to be during the preseason. There’s only so much logical guesstimating involved and it’s best to stick with the best of the best rather than try to overcompensate and play guys based on matchups. Sure, the Steelers might struggle on offense, which could limit the opportunities for a guy like LB Curtis Lofton, but play your guys with confidence.

As the season progresses, identifying matchups will get easier. But for now, stick with the standard rankings and let the details play out over the next few weeks.
