Defensive Lineman

DT Gerald McCoy: Some debated if Gerald McCoy was worth selecting over Suh at the draft this past spring. While it’s clear at this time (and should have been then) that Suh is better, McCoy is still a great young talent.

Last week McCoy posted two sacks against the Ravens and had a sack the week before against the 49ers. The Buccaneers interior line is also doing a good job against the run, and it looks like McCoy is worthy of a starting spot going forward, if you start a defensive tackle position in your IDP league.

DE Cliff Avril vs Bears: This has been a lost season for Cliff Avril and mainly due to injuries. For all the disappointment Avril has had, this week should make for a decent play if you need some help. Avril will face up against the Bears offensive line, and it appears that the Lions talented defensive end is finally off the injury list.

Akin Ayodele: I’ve been holding back on Akin Ayodele over the past few weeks because I wanted to see if his recent play would continue. Last week the Steelers pounded the football against Buffalo and since Ayodele is playing on the inside, it’s no wonder he had twelve tackles. This week the Bills will face the Vikings, and it looks like Adrian Peterson will play.

Expect the Vikings to pound the football with Peterson and Toby Gerhart as this should make for another solid game for Ayodele.

Rolando McClain: The Raiders’ rookie middle linebacker had a slow start to the season but has picked it up of late. Sometimes it takes a rookie like McClain a few games before he starts to assert himself at the NFL level. Look for McClain to continue his strong play down the stretch.

Keith Rivers: (Outside Linebacker Help) If you’re in an extreme IDP league where you start inside and outside linebacker positions in your roster, then Keith Rivers is worth a look. Rivers started out the season solid but fell to injury in the middle of the year. Of late, Rivers has played well, and it looks like he should benefit from the Bengals defense struggling to get off the field.

This week the Saints should keep Rivers busy as they roll up the offense against this group.

Defensive Backs

S Abram Elam: The Browns used Abram Elam to rush the passer last week and Elam enjoyed his first two sacks of the season. Just the week before Elam also picked off David Garrard. Look for Elam to keep his production solid against the Dolphins this week as last week Raiders safety Tyvon Branch had eleven tackles and a sack against Chad Henne.

CB Devin McCourty: The Patriots have landed a solid corner back in this years past draft when they selected Devin McCourty in the first round. Since McCourty is only a rookie, he will continue to be tested down the stretch. Last week McCourty added two interceptions against the Lions and now has five on the season.

His solid play should continue against the Jets this week as Mark Sanchez will be forced to throw at some point.
