Week 12 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups

Defensive Lineman

DE- Charles Johnson: The Panthers have a horrible offense and are a very bad overall team. For all the bad fortune, this group has shared the defense seems to play hard most weeks. Charles Johnson is one of those hard working players, and his success should continue down the stretch.

Johnson may not be a big name in the NFL (probably why he’s available for waiver wire in some leagues), but he’s played well for IDP this season.

DE- Matt Shaughnessy: I’ve talked about Matt Shaughnessy in waiver wire’s gone by, and he continues to show production most weeks. With Richard Seymour facing a possible suspension, look for Shaughnessy to see more activity on the front line. Teams will continue to pound the football if Seymour is out.

DT- Amobi Okoye: When the Texans drafted Amobi Okoye, I figured it was going to take him a few years to get his playing weight up before he would be productive for IDP. If I’m not mistaken Okoye was still 19 years old when he was drafted in the first round, but he is clearly playing at a better level in 2010.

Look for Okoye to stay active as a decent defensive tackle option for tackle heavy leagues.

James Farrior: A slow start and many years in the NFL can make many IDP fantasy owners think a linebacker like James Farrior isn’t worth holding onto. Farrior has been strong in recent weeks and with so many banged up players on the Steelers defense, he should remain active on the stat sheet.

I was surprised to see he was available in a couple of my IDP leagues, so see if you can gab him in your league.

Defensive Backs

Terrell Thomas: The love / hate relationship continues with Terrell Thomas and myself. For some stretches, Thomas can seem like an every week starter and then go silent for a time. This isn’t uncommon for cornerbacks as they may not see much activity for various reasons.

Look for the Jaguars to throw the football this week and Thomas should remain as a steady option going forward as teams test the Giants secondary.

Dimitri Patterson: Sure, Dimitri Patterson didn’t have a solid game against the Giants, but he should see opportunities going forward. The Eagles are about to place Ellis Hobbs on the IR, and Patterson is slated as a starter.
