Foster No. 1 Overall In Fantasy 2011?
In a time when most football fans are examining the remaining postseason contestants and projecting what the NFL Super Bowl lines at BetUS might be, some fantasy enthusiasts are already looking to next year.
If the drafts happened tomorrow, would Arian Foster be the No. 1 overall selection?
It’s an interesting question as the former undrafted running back vaulted his way to the top of the NFL as well as almost all fantasy leagues. Foster finished with 1616 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns while adding another 66 receptions for 600 yards and another pair of touchdowns.
The debate prior to the 2010 fantasy drafts was who was going first overall: Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson. After both had down seasons, will either really be considered for the top spot once again?
Peterson, who had long been the lone consistent on the Vikings offense regardless of whatever happened around him, had 1298 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, which was a steep drop from the 18 he produced in 2009.
Speaking of steep drops, Chris Johnson’s production in 2010 fell short by nearly 650 yards from his 2000-yard effort in 2009. He also produced four total touchdowns less.
So will anyone challenge Foster for the No. 1 position? Especially since the Texans decided to keep Gary Kubiak as their head coach to preserve the offensive consistency?
Here is one name that might: Michael Vick.
It’s a stretch, but in any league that at all favors quarterbacks in the structure over running backs, Vick may have to be considered. As it stands now, he’ll likely be a top-five pick.
Vick threw for 21 touchdown passes and rushed for nine more while averaging 307.8 yards of offense per game. Clearly in some leagues, he’ll be an option.
A lot might change from now until the start of the 2011 season – especially since a collective bargaining agreement needs to be hammered out to ensure that we actually see live action next September – but for now, it looks like Foster will be the top pick in most fantasy football drafts.
