Closers, RP 2011 Projected Stats – AL Only

It’s time to get ready for your AL only fantasy baseball draft and below you will find 2011 projected stats for a few closers and relief pitchers we’ve selected. While we feel these are the top closers and relief pitchers to go after at your draft, they certainly aren’t all the eligible options at this position.

Rafael Soriano has departed from the Rays after posting a fabulous year as a closer. Now on the Yankees, Soriano will serve as the eight inning setup man for Mariano Rivera. While Soriano’s fantasy value took a big hit, it looks like Joe Nathan is ready to return to the Twins and should regain his closers role by the start of the season.

Some feel the Twins may easy Nathan in, but I suspect if he’s ready to go, they won’t hesitate to place him in his ninth inning role ahead of Matt Capps. Matt Thornton is one setup man who should see more save opportunities in Chicago as the team moved Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox this off-season.

Look to Fernando Rodney as the early bet for save chances with the Angels as he has good veteran experience. Eventually, the team will look for someone else as Rodney’s ERA and WHIP aren’t up to the standards of a pitcher in the final inning of work.
