Closers – RP 2011 Projected Stats

The value of a relief pitcher is greatly tied to his opportunities for save opportunities in most fantasy baseball leagues. Knowing which relief pitchers have stable jobs in contrast to those that may be trade or could lose their job to poor play is crucial in deciding which relief pitchers you want to add onto your squad.

One closer that will always have a safe job is Yankees future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera as he is on the prowl to chase down Trevor Hoffman for most saves all time. Rivera won’t catch Hoffman this season, but he should have another fine year for New York. Don’t worry about the team signing Rafael Soriano to a huge contract as he will be the teams setup man and will probably one collect a hand full of saves.

Another closer that came out of nowhere is expected to be closer for the Blue Jays Frank Francisco. The Blue Jays traded away Mike Napoli (had him for four days) and moved him to the Rangers for Francisco.

Since the team lost last years closer Kevin Gregg to free agency (closing for the Orioles) they needed a veteran to nail down the ninth innings.

Speaking of the Rangers, it will be interesting to see if last years’ rookie closer Neftali Feliz will enjoy the kind of success he had a year ago. Feliz should see a down tick in production this year but our projected stats have him posting a respectable year.
